Studio lighting workshop

What Went Down at Our Studio Lighting Workshop

If you’ve ever stood in front of a strobe light wondering what half the buttons do — this workshop was made for you.

We recently hosted an intro studio lighting workshop designed specifically for beginner and intermediate photographers who are ready to level up from natural light and start taking control of their images. And honestly? It delivered.

The Breakdown

The session covered everything you need to feel confident walking into a studio setting. Attendees got hands-on time with both strobe and continuous lighting setups — learning not just what each one does, but when and why you’d reach for one over the other. From understanding how to read and adjust your light output, to figuring out the best modifier for the look you’re going for, nothing was left vague or glossed over.

From there, it was all about placement. Different lighting positions, angles, and how even small shifts can completely transform the mood and depth of a shot. Rembrandt, split, butterfly — attendees left actually knowing what those terms mean and how to recreate them.

The Best Part? A Live Model

Theory only gets you so far. That’s why the workshop wrapped with hands-on practice using a live model, giving everyone the chance to apply what they learned in real time — adjusting lights, communicating with talent, and shooting with intention.

Led by Rashad Gilmore

None of this would’ve been possible without our own Rashad Gilmore, who led the entire session. Rashad has a way of breaking down lighting concepts that actually makes sense — no over-complicated jargon, just clear, practical knowledge you can use the next time you step behind a camera.

What’s Next

Workshops like this are exactly what we built the studio for — a space where photographers at every level can come, learn, and grow. Stay tuned for what’s coming next, and if you missed this one, don’t sleep on the next opportunity.
